Kabuki Theatre Pack - Royal Opera House

The Brief
This project for my university degree required the development and creation of a VIP theatre pack for the Royal Opera House in London for their show Kabuki - The Beauty of Japanese Theatre.
The brief required the design of individual information pages and the design and creation of the box to hold the pages.
The Outcome
My research showed that Kabuki consists of three Japanese letters. KA which means Song, BU which means Dance and KI which means Skill. This influenced my box design which opens into three sections. Each section represents each of the Japanese letters. This was combined with traditional Kabuki colours of red and Japanese hand lettering.

The internal double-sided pages feature a range of information relating to Kabuki theatre. The design included hand-drawn illustrations, patterns and custom typography to fit with the Japanese theme.
These are the hand-drawn letters I created for the internal page headings and the external box typography.
